First Annual Homeschool Day at Lava Hot Springs!- Come and join the fun as homeschooling families from all over Southeast Idaho spend the day together swimming, splashing, sliding, laughing, and feasting together!

When: Thursday, August 28th

Where: Lava Hot Springs Olympic Swimming Pool
(There are videos and lots of info about the pool)

Time: 11 am - 8 pm

Fees: $20/immediate family members or say you are with the Southeast Idaho Homeschoolers and get in for the school rate of $5.50/person - 3 and up 1.50/person - 2 and under.
Use whichever payment scale is cheaper for your family.

Tennis Lessons for home-schoolers age 8+: Here is a great chance to get your child/student involved in a sport with other home schooled children. The group will meet one weekday afternoon at 4:00 pm, and the cost is $5.00 per lesson. Also, A younger group may be added if there is enough interest. You Can Homeschool!

     Are you thinking of teaching your children at home? Don't know where to start? Would you like to find out more about it? We can help you build the confidence you need to have a great start to your homeschool!

     Whether you already know a lot about homeschooling or you're just beginning to explore this option, you will find useful, encouraging information at this Open House. We will watch a 30-minute DVD (sponsored by HSLDA - Home School Legal Defense Assn) called "You Can Homeschool: A Closer Look" and then have a Question and Answer session with several veteral homeschool parents from right here in Pocatello/Chubbuck.

CHOIS-www.chois.org Phone: 208/424-6685.Christian Homeschoolers of Idaho State is a non-profit, all volunteer organization that seeks to encourage and equip parents to fulfill their God-given right to educate their children at home. Homeschool parents all over Idaho go to CHOIS to get their questions about homeschooling answered. They host the annual homeschool convention in Boise. They also offer an HSLDA group membership discount. (more info below under HSLDA)

The CHOIS Connection magazine: Free statewide magazine mailed quarterly. To subscribe, visit the website, www.chois.org or email info@chois.org asking to be added to the subscriber list.

 

ICHE-www.iche-idaho.org Join the Idaho Coalition of Home Educators! They protect the right of families to home educate in the state of Idaho. There are a number of advantages in being a member of ICHE, which I highly recommend! Annual membersip is only $20.00. You will receive an ICHE Educator discount card (discounts available at local businesses) and Student ID cards. Membership also includes:

**Standardized Testing - ICHE offers (for a small fee) annual testing to home educated students. Visit their website to see all the reasons why your students should be tested every year! Registration is open May 1 - August 1, online and by mail. Registration must be postmarked by August 1, 2008 and online registration must be posted by midnight of August 1, 2008. **ICHE hosts Legislative Day in Boise once a year where ICHE testing data and student projects are displayed. This helps to keep the homeschool community in touch with our state Congressmen.

**ICHE legal advisors closely monitor pending legislation in Idaho affecting home education and keep members updated via email.

**Their website, www.iche-idaho.org, provides online membership and testing registration and a huge list of resources to support your homeschool.

 

HSLDA-Home School Legal Defense Assn. www.hslda.org They provide professional legal representation for your homeschooling for an annual fee. If you join HSLDA through CHOIS, you can get a discount. The CHOIS discount number is 5017165 if you are joining HSLDA for the first time, and 299536 if you are renewing your membership. the group name (on the application) is "CHOIS".
