Home School Students participate in a variety of Activities throughout the year. Below are some of the highlights from those activities. Click on the title of each, to view some photos from the event*.
National Weather Service Field Trip - On Wednesday, April 26, 2006, 13 home school students traveled to the local National Weather Service to receive an informative tour through the facility. A variety of items were demonstrated that are used for collecting data to predict the weather. The participating students received a bag containing posters, booklets and other weather related information to take home.
"Kids Helping Kids" Community Service Project - More than 40 bags were packaged from the donations that the home school students collected at area businesses. Students sorted and then packaged the items according to age of the receiving child. The students did a terrific job and their efforts will aid the children displaced from domestic violence situations.
Police K-9 Field Trip - On April 12, 2006 more than 45 home school students converged on a local park to receive a demonstration by the Pocatello Police K-9 unit. The students were both entertained and amazed at the performance and abilities of the dogs, as they watched 4 officers demonstrate the different and unique talents of their dog.
Film Festival - Once a month, the home school students gather at the Marshall Public Library to enjoy a "classic" family film. Popcorn and other refershments were enjoyed by the students as they watched the feature presentation in the company of their friends.
Talent Show '06 - On March 29, some home school students participated in a Talent Show held at the Senior Center in Pocatello. The group was under the direction of Julie and Glenn Van Sickle and they performed on stage to an appreciative audience that really enjoyed the entertainment!
Science Fair- This year the home school science Fair was held at the Marshall Public Library on February 22, 2006. Students told about their projects and received a certificate for their participation. Other parents and students stopped by to view the projects and support the student's efforts. Great job students!
Spring Semester Science Classes - Several Times a Year, Students are Invited to particiapte in extra-curricular Science Classes held at the Museum Of Natural History, on the ISU Campus in Pocatello. A fee is charged, and the classes are held every other Friday from 10:00 am - noon. Students must pre-register! A special topic is covered at each class, and guest speakers sometimes come in to help the students gain a better understanding of the topic. Students are divided into 3 groups, and particiapte in a variety of activites based on their ages.
